A Big East team finally stumbles

MEMPHIS , Tenn. — It took a while, but the Big East express finally hit an NCAA speed bump Friday with the elimination of Syracuse by Oklahoma in the South Regional.

There could still be three Big East reps (one from the East for sure) at the Final Four, but the Big 12 has a couple of teams standing in the Sooners and Missouri. Both are underdogs, however.

Connecticut will be favored over the Tigers today in the West title game and North Carolina will picked to win Sunday over OU.

And if you take Gonzaga coach Mark Few’s word for it, the ACC Tar Heels are the team to beat even though Louisville of the Big East landed the overall tournament top seeding.

“I just think that if everyone plays their best, no one’s going to be able to beat Carolina,” Few said after his team’s 98-77 third-round loss to the Heels in Memphis’ FedExForum.
